What are the Different Transport Costs?

Understanding NDIS transport funding is one of the most common challenges for participants and families. This guide simplifies how funding works, what you can claim, and the different categories available to support your mobility. NDIS transport support generally falls into two main categories based on your level of independence and the type of assistance required.

General Transport (Funding for Independent Travel)
This funding is for participants who cannot use public transport independently due to their disability. The NDIS may pay this funding directly to your bank account (weekly, fortnightly, or monthly).

  • Rate: It depends on how much you use transport for disability-related needs.
  • What it covers: Taxis, rideshares (like Uber) or private vehicle costs.
  • Common uses: commuting to work or school, attending medical appointments, or attending therapy sessions.

Note: This is specifically for disability-related travel, not everyday transport that any member of the general public would incur.

Activity-Based Transport (Travel with a Support Worker)
If a support worker uses their vehicle to take you to a community activity, we would charge for the vehicle’s “running costs.”

  • Rate: $1 per kilometre
  • What it covers: Cost of the journey while the worker is actively providing support.
  • Common uses: Social Event, Shopping, Outings.

Note: Because NDIS price guides are updated periodically (usually every July), Blu Sky Care reviews its Service Agreements regularly to ensure they remain compliant with the latest government standards.
